1: Overview
You can apply value-based series coloring to various chart types in StoryCreator, including gauges, bars, and columns. This feature helps highlight differences in value ranges, making it easier to spot data that falls above or below specific targets or benchmarks.
2: Supported Chart Types
Value-based coloring works with the following chart types in StoryCreator:
Bar
Column
Pie
Donut
3: Example
Values from 0 to 28 are colored red
Values from 28 to 30 are yellow
Values from 30 to 100 are green
4: Setting up Value Based Coloring in StoryCreator Charts
1. Open the Format Chart Menu: In the chart toolbar, select "Format chart" to access customization settings.
2. Navigate to Series Colors: In the left-hand panel, click "Series colors " to open the series color settings.
3. Enable Value-Based Colors: Toggle Value based colors to activate the option.
4. Define the Start Value: In the Start value field, choose the operator (e.g., >=) and enter the numeric threshold that begins your first value range.
5. Define the Stop Value: In the Stop value field, choose the operator (e.g., <) and enter the upper limit for the value range.
6. Assign a Color: Select a color for the value range using the color selector. This color will apply to series values within the defined range.
7. Add Additional Ranges: Click Add new range to define more value-color rules as needed, and repeat 4, 5 & 6 for each range added.
Note: If the chart is exported to PowerPoint as an editable object, the chart legend may not completely match the online appearance (see image below). This is due to limitations in PowerPoint's chart functionality. To avoid this issue, export charts as images or setup the chart without a legend.
