1: Ranking in Tables
You can apply ranking to tables in StoryCreator. You can rank across rows or columns and choose whether to display only rank numbers or show them alongside the original values.
You can also set the ranking direction to display results from high to low or low to high.
The ranking setting is located at the bottom of the Apply Analysis panel:
The ranking direction setting is shown below:
2: Sorting in Tables and Charts
Sorting lets you reorder items in tables and charts so insights surface quickly. You can sort by value (ascending or descending), sort by another chart/table in the same saved deck, or sort using a specific series (including the first or last available series). Features like Top/Bottom lists rely on sorting by value.
2.1: Top and Bottom Lists
Top and bottom lists can be created in charts and tables to highlight, for example, the top 5 brands or top 5 image attributes.
The Show Top/Bottom setting is available in the Series sorting panel and is only active when sorting by value.
Note: The Top X setting always displays the items with the highest values. The Bottom X setting displays those with the lowest values. Sorting direction does not affect this. Anchored items are only included if their values are high or low enough.
2.2: Sort by Other Objects
You can sort a chart or table in a saved StoryCreator deck by using another chart or table in the same deck.
In the example below, the two tables on the right are sorted by the chart on the left.
Use the Sorting panel in the Series Settings to configure this. Select the “By other chart/table” option and choose the object ID of the chart or table to sort by.
2.2.1: Rules
- Only saved charts and tables can be used as sources. If an item is missing, save the deck, then try again.
- Sorting by another object relies on matching text. Axis or row labels in the source must match those in the current object. Items without matching text appear last.
2.3: First and Last Series Sorting
When sorting by Value, you can specify a particular series whose values you want to base the sorting on. All series in the chart will be listed so that you can pick one.
In addition, instead of selecting a specific series you can use the “First series” or “Last series” as the sorting base. This is useful when the chart or table is affected by variable subset selection.

First series: Uses the first available legend series as the sort base.
Last series: Uses the last available legend series as the sort base.
