1: Overview
You can export charts and tables from StoryCreator to PowerPoint in two ways. Either as static images or as fully editable objects.
As an Administrator, you control which export options are available to users by configuring the export format settings in the setup panel.
2: User Export Options
When you click Export from the left-hand menu, you can choose how your StoryCreator deck will be exported to PowerPoint.
1: Export: Opens the export panel
2: Filename: Defaults to current date and time
3: Generate PPT report as images: Exports a non-editable version
4: Generate PPT report as editable objects: Exports charts and tables that can be edited in PowerPoint
5: My exports page: Opens a list of previous exports
3: Administrator Setup – Export Format Configuration
As an Administrator, use the Export Format panel to define what export options are available to users. You can access this panel by clicking the Setup button to the top right of the StoryCreator window.
1: PPT, charts and tables exported as images: Allow users to export as non-editable PowerPoint slides.
2: PPT, charts and tables exported as editable objects: Allow users to export editable charts and tables in PowerPoint.
3: PDF: Enable PDF export
4: Excel: Enable Excel export
5: Theme template: Applies the current project's theme.
6: Forsta Sample Template: Uses the default Forsta sample template.
7: Add new custom template: Upload a PowerPoint template in .PPT, .PPTX, .POT, or .POTX format. The template’s slide size should match the report layout (e.g., 16:9).
8: Allow chart image quality selection: Lets users choose image quality when exporting to PPT or PDF.
9: Image quality: Set a default image quality level (Low, Medium, High).
Note: Changes to image quality are saved automatically, even if Cancel is selected afterward.
4: Compatibility
- Editable PowerPoint exports are supported in PowerPoint 2013 and later.
- Exports may work in PowerPoint 2010, but compatibility is not guaranteed.
5: Layout Differences Between Online and PowerPoint
When exported as editable objects, chart and table layouts may differ slightly in PowerPoint. Larger charts usually preserve layout better.
5.1: Layout items that export precisely:
- Chart/table position in slide
- Chart type
- Colors (text, gridlines, axis, etc.)
- Fonts
- Manual scale
- Data labels (toggle, placement, decimals)
- Gridlines and axis lines (on/off)
- Unit labels
5.2: Layout items that may differ:
- Column/bar width
- Legend size
- Distance between scale steps
- Auto-generated scale values
- Line thickness
- Axis label rotation and wrapping
6: Points vs. Pixels
Text and line sizes are defined in pixels online but converted to points in PowerPoint. While conversion is automatic, values may appear slightly different across platforms.
