This article explains how to add and configure variables in StoryTeller charts.
After you insert a chart object from the StoryTeller menu, while in the Design Reports area, you need to add variables, apply filters, adjust settings and layout, and run an analysis of the data in the chart.
Select Edit on the chart or right-click the chart and select Edit Content.
A new window opens, showing all available settings and configuration options.
From the Summary pane, select Calculations. Alternatively, from the right side menu, select the Data stack icon, then select the Calculations tab. Under Calculations, use the drop-down menu to identify the types of variables/questions you want to include and how to display them. You can choose from:
Categorical questions: Percentage share, Mean, or Count
Numeric questions: Mean, Sum, Min, Max, Median, or Percentile
Correlation Analysis
Some options add additional fields under the Calculations header for you to customize.
After you've selected your Calculations type, select your Variables. You can open the Variables pop-up modal from the Summary pane or by selecting the Edit Data icon next to the Variables header under the Calculations tab on the Data pane.
The Variables modal displays. You can filter the questions by selecting Variable subsets and / or Question blocks from their drop-down menus. You can show the question and answer codes by using the Show code toggle.
If the loop iterator is enabled in your project, when you select a looped question, an additional column for filters will display. To learn how to enable the loop iterator, see Project Settings--4.1: Looped Data.
Once you have made your choices, select Apply.
To see a preview of the chart in the Chart editor, select Preview.
Once you’ve made your selections, review the additional options to modify the way the chart data displays. Your options include Variables, Filters, Series settings, Analysis, Format, and more. To see the effects of your changes, select Preview again.
You can move the Question and Answer options between the Axis and Legend sections. You can change the Question and Answer options selected by reopening the Variables pop-up modal.
When you're done, select Save to save your chart and return to the StoryTeller slide.
