1: Saving and Managing Template Sets
Custom template sets let you reuse specific layouts across projects. A template set works across all projects and includes:
Default templates for each question type (up to five)
Additional condition-based templates for specific variables or scenarios
When this template set is used, all variables will be assigned one of these slide templates based on their type and condition they fulfill.
2: Creating a Template Set
Before creating a template set, you must design the slides that will be included in the set.
When designing a slide:
You can use one or more variables, as long as they are the same question type
You can use multiple data objects
Do not include filters, dynamic images, or references to other objects
This slide has one variable and multiple data objects that can be used as a template slide.
Note: If your slide uses a named layout from a PowerPoint master template, StoryTeller will try to apply that same layout during slide generation. If the layout isn’t available, the default layout will be used instead.

To create a template set:
Open a slide to include in the template set
Open the Template tab and select Save Slide as Template or right-click on the slide
Assign it to the appropriate variable type
(Optional) Add conditions using tags, codes, or answer counts
Click Save
Repeat this process for all slides in the set
Note: Slides must be part of a saved StoryTeller report to be used to create template slides
Additional rules for template sets:
Template slides should be universal and not tied to a specific project. The data objects in the slides should not include filters or referencing other data objects in features such as "Sort by other chart," or links to other reports.
Slides that include charts like scatter and bubble use more than one variable and cannot be saved as templates
Slides with dynamic images use multiple variables, comparison filers, or involve specific answer comparisons, and cannot be saved as templates.
Tip: To automatically display the question text in your slide header, insert a question token in a text box using the format [YourCode:T]. The token is replaced with the actual question text during slide generation.
3: Managing Template Sets
To manage a saved template set:
-
Open Templates > Template Sets… from the ribbon menu
Rename or delete sets
Edit individual slides or their rules
Reorder templates to prioritize application
4: Template Slides with Conditions
You can have multiple slide templates for each variable type. Each template set can include a default slide template for each variable type and additional slide templates with conditions.
A slide template can include one or multiple conditions. When multiple conditions are applied, you can specify whether All or Any of the conditions must be met.
Templates are evaluated in order, using the first match. If no conditions match, the default layout is applied.
The following types of conditions can be applied to a slide template:
Number of questions
Number of answers
Question tag
Question code
Question text
Each type of condition has a list of available operators. For example, the following operators are available when using "Question code" as a condition:
Equal to
Not equal to
Contains
Does not contain
Starts with
Ends with
In the list
The top two slide templates have specific rules, and the bottom slide template is a default template.
