1: Enabling Weight and Weight Text Columns
The first step is to enable the "weight" and "weight text" columns.
1. On the Questions page, click the Columns icon.
2. Tick the Weight and Weight Text checkboxes.
Two new columns will appear on the Questions Page: "Weight" and "Weight Text".

2: Creating New Weight Variables from the Questions Page
To create a new weight variable from the questions page :
1. Click the Create new variable button.
2. Click Create Weight.
3. Depending on the type of weight variable you want to create, follow the steps in How to Create a Weight Variable (Standard Target Weighting)? or How to Create a Weight Variable (RIM)?

3: Specifying an Additional Weight Variable
Specifying additional weight variables allows you to set any existing numeric variable to a weight variable.
Within the Weight column:
Click the
icon to unspecify the variable as a weight variable. The
icon signifies that the variable is currently specified as a weight variable.
Click the
icon to specify the variable as a weight variable. The
icon signifies that the variable is not currently specified as a weight variable.
The
icon signifies that the variable cannot be specified as a weight variable as it is not a numeric type.
3.1: Example
In Figure 3 below:
The variable "Weight - by age and gender" is specified as a weight variable.
The variable Index 1 is not specified as a weight variable.
The remaining variables cannot be specified as weight variables as they are not numeric.

3.2: Weight Text Column
The weight text column is where you can write a label to define the weight column. This label is what you will see when working with the weight variable in other parts of Visualizations, such as calculations and applying analysis. To edit the weight text, the variable must be specified as a weight variable (signified by a icon). If the variable is not specified as a weight variable, the weight text column will be hidden.
To do edit the weight text:
1. Click the weight variable you want to edit text for.
2. Click inside the weight text column.
3. Type the weight text.
4. Press the Enter key.
4: Changing the Default Weight Variable
It is possible to change the default weight variable for your project.
To change the default weight variable:
1. Right-click the weight variable you wish to set as default.
2. Click Set weight as default.
